BYOV: A better way to migrate voice enrollments at scale

Switching voice authentication solutions can feel like starting over: years of enrolled voiceprints, gone, and forcing already enrolled customers to re-enroll one call at a time. With Pindrop® Bring Your Own Voice (BYOV), we’ve crafted a better way to migrate, one that doesn’t put the burden on your customers—and now it’s more automated than ever before. 

BYOV takes the voice enrollments you already have (collected under your own consent processes) into production-ready Pindrop enrollments, cutting down on re-enrollment calls and limiting any gap in coverage. 

We’ve now automated that process to make it easier than ever before to both migrate and audit the decisions made every step of the way.

3M+ enrollments from one automated workflow

BYOV has already been put to the test. At one large financial institution, we deployed the automated BYOV workflow across an employee pilot and two customer migration groups.
The Pindrop research team validated the process before moving any customer records with the employee pilot. It confirmed that account mappings were preserved, recordings with insufficient speech were excluded, and the final enrollments could be loaded and checked successfully.

The first customer migration started with more than 1.7 million accounts. After removing short recordings and accounts that already had a production enrollment, the team successfully imported 1,532,580 validated, net-new enrollments.

The second customer group added another 1,551,058 enrollments. Fewer than 1% of the supplied records were excluded for insufficient speech, and existing voiceprints were preserved instead of overwritten.

From pilot to production

The impact showed up quickly:

  • 3 out of 4 customers calling in were voice matched after the first migration.
  • After the second batch, that number increased to 81.5% and only 1 in 20 callers weren’t enrolled after the final migration.
  • ~4,000-5,000 more calls contained in the IVR each day
  • Average agent verification time per authenticated call dropped 65%, from 158 seconds before the migration to 54.5 seconds after.

Those results are the value of migration done well. More callers can benefit from voice authentication sooner, without waiting to enroll again through future interactions. For callers who still reached an agent, that meant less time spent confirming their identity and a faster path to service.

How does automated voice migration work?

BYOV is an end-to-end workflow that turns your existing data into validated enrollments.

The process starts with call-recording archives and metadata that map each recording to an account. From there, the workflow:

  1. Validates the input: It checks the expected folder structure and metadata, extracts the audio, and confirms that recordings match the right accounts.
  2. Builds enrollment and test data: It creates the voice data used for enrollment while holding back a separate sample for validation.
  3. Extracts and evaluates voice features: It generates voice features, scores the data, and produces performance results for review.
  4. Applies quality and safety checks: It identifies recordings with insufficient speech, avoids replacing existing production enrollments, and records why any account was excluded.
  5. Creates the final enrollment package: It produces the files and reports needed for import, followed by post-launch validation.

The workflow runs in parallel on AWS Batch, allowing large populations to be processed without turning each migration into a new engineering project. It also keeps the work auditable: teams can see what was included, what was excluded, and why.

A test-first experience for the teams running the migration

Automation only scales when the people working with customers can use it safely.

We built a simple interface that gives sales engineers access to the same governed BYOV workflow. They can select a customer and job, configure the run, and start with a small test before processing the full population.

That test-first approach is important. A preview provides an early check on audio quality, net speech, and model performance. Once the results look right, the sales engineer can launch the full job and monitor its progress from the same place.

For completed jobs, the interface brings together processing status, performance metrics, visualizations, speech-quality summaries, and downloadable results. It also supports re-scoring with an updated configuration without repeating the most expensive parts of the workflow.

This changes how engineering and research contribute. Instead of manually operating every migration, researchers build and maintain the guardrails: validation, logging, scalability, and consistent outputs. Sales engineers can move well-scoped projects forward, while research and engineering remain involved where technical judgment matters.

Automation with people still in control

Voice data is sensitive, and production enrollment decisions deserve careful review. The goal was never to remove people from the process.

Teams still confirm the destination environment, review exclusions, validate a sample, and check enrollment and authentication trends after import. Automation handles the repeatable work, while humans remain responsible for customer context, quality decisions, and final approval.

That balance helped the team move from a pilot of roughly 121,000 records to more than 3 million customer enrollments across two production migrations, while maintaining clear quality thresholds and preserving existing voiceprints.

Built for the next migration

Every voice migration has its own data, timing, and operational constraints. The answer is not to rebuild the process every time. It is to create a reliable path that can absorb those differences without losing consistency.
