In honor of our expansion into the UK this week, this post is focused on the latest phone fraud news coming out of the UK.
On Tuesday, Gloucestershire celebrated their inaugural Courier Fraud Awareness day with an advisory in the Stroud News & Journal. A staff writer for the publication warned residents of the impending threat of the popular phone scam, highlighting its growth with over 2,500 offenses reported to the Metropolitan Police last year. This particular fraud utilizes courier firms to help defraud elderly and vulnerable victims of their life savings.
On Thursday, the Falmouth Packet also reported on courier fraud, diving into the personal struggles of one victim defrauded of £130,000 ($176,335). A staff writer for the publication mentioned that Police Officers were also aware of at least five other residents being targeted in Helston this week, including a couple in their 80s losing £15,000 ($20,346).
