Pindrop for Amazon Connect | A Balancing Act
Defending the phone channel presents various challenges, especially due to…
This week in phone fraud includes a Black Hat conference wrap up piece, one would-be fraud victim’s recording of a Microsoft phone scam, and a report claiming tax fraud phone scams are conning taxpayers out of $5 million so far this year.
On Saturday, NPR published a wrap up on this year’s Black Hat conference in Las Vegas. Pindrop received a mention, thanks in part to our interview with Aarti Shahani, NPR’s Tech Correspondent in attendance this year.
On Tuesday, The Globe and Mail published a story around one citizen’s brush with the popular Microsoft tech support phone scam. Although, instead of simply hanging up (which is what you should always do!) this citizen actually recorded the call in its entirety and submitted it to The Globe and Mail, to help warn others.
On Wednesday, our VP of Marketing Matt Anthony was included in Customer Experience Report’s article around Voice Biometrics. Matt spoke towards the plight of the customer service representative, stating, “A customer service rep job isn’t easy. So if you can reduce something they have to be trained on, if you can use technology to do authentication instead of telling the rep ‘If this happens you need to ask these questions, and if this happens you need to ask these questions,’ then that becomes valuable.”
On Thursday, Politico published a story around the IRS’ recent report that this year’s IRS tax fraud scam has conned American taxpayers out of upwards of $5 million dollars. This same report also mentioned that an estimated 1,100 people have been duped by the scam so far.
Earlier this year we published our own research on this massive IRS scam as well. Our blog post and research can be found here.
